EPD strategy & implementation
Rational EPD implementation for manufacturers and industry associations.
Guidance Clarity Direction
Context
The Life Cycle paradigm is sweeping across the construction sector. As a result, demand for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) is rising across the HVAC supply chain. What began as a vague requirement in a few select projects is quickly becoming a structural expectation, as Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) become a mandated part of the building design and documentation process.
EPDs have existed for many years, with ISO 14025 as the foundation. Construction products follow additional rules, defined in ISO 21930 and the European EN 15804 standard. Because environmental profiles vary, complementary product category rules (c-PCRs) are needed for different product groups - most of which have not been standardised.
While EPD methodologies, c-PCRs, underlying standards, and regulatory interpretations continue to evolve, many organisations face the same dilemma: How to rig for current and future EPD requirements in a way that is credible, compliant, and without unnecessary cost or complexity?
EPD demand is becoming structural
Programmes and rules are evolving
Strategy matters more than making EPDs
What we provide
We support manufacturers and industry organisations in developing EPD strategies that are compliant, market-relevant, and adapted to their products and organisation. This includes guidance on LCA & EPD basics, scope, framework, methodological choices, and implementation models.
Our focus goes beyond the cost-effective production of accurate and non-misleading EPDs. We support informed and long-term decisions on an issue of strategic importance, shedding light on direct and indirect consequences for products, manufacturers, and building design.
How we approach it
Our approach is grounded in regulatory insight and practical experience across the full life cycle. We emphasise what EPDs are intended to deliver, how they are used in construction projects, and where their limitations lie. By keeping close to the established framework, we aim for solutions that are technically sound, commercially viable, and aligned with the regulatory intentions.
This work typically begins with a short conversation. If EPDs are of relevance for your organisation, you are welcome to get in touch.
